Four Chelsea players told they are ‘not good enough’

Jamie Carragher has told Mauricio Pochettino that at least four of his players are not good enough if Chelsea want to challenge at the top of the Premier League.

The Blues ended their negative run of form on Monday evening as they won 2-0 at Fulham.

However, Chelsea still find themselves down in 11th position, eight points off the top four and 10 points behind league leaders Man City.

Despite owner Todd Boehly spending a world record €1 billion on transfers since taking over the club last year, Chelsea have had disastrous results on the pitch.

They finished 12th in the Premier League last season and their prospects look little better this term.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher has pinpointed the areas Chelsea need to improve.

What did Carragher say about Chelsea?

“You very rarely get your best XI on the pitch and they have suffered from injuries,” he told Sky Sports.

“This is a team that is, at best, fighting for the top four. If you’re telling me the current team is Chelsea’s best team after they’ve spent £1bn… that team would still need at least four top players if they had any chance of catching Manchester City.

“The goalkeeper is not good enough, the centre-forward is not good enough, they need a centre-back and probably another midfield player.

“To think Chelsea have spent over £1bn and they still feel like they’re half a team away from competing for the Premier League title is flabbergasting.”

Chelsea are next in action on Saturday at Burnley before a tough run of fixtures after the international break.

The Blues face Arsenal, Brentford, Tottenham, Man City, Newcastle, Brighton and Man City in that order in the Premier League over the next eight weeks.

They play no European matches having failed to qualify so will at least have the advantage of longer preparation time and recovery.
