Barcelona star Gavi has revealed that he is keeping a close eye on the fortunes of one particular Premier League club this season.

While many supporters focus on the big teams – Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester City – Gavi, who describes himself as a “football geek”, is following the fortunes of Brighton.

The 19-year-old’s interest has been piqued by the presence of fellow La Masia graduate Ansu Fati at the AmEx Stadium, with the 20-year-old spending a year on loan with Roberto De Zerbi’s side from Barcelona.

Gavi, who also said he would have been “screwed” if Frenkie de Jong left the club, explained to RAC1: “I'm a football geek, I watch many games with friends at home, especially in the Premier League. I like some teams more than others. I follow Manchester City and now especially Brighton because they play well and Ansu Fati is also there.

“I see that Ansu is doing well. I am convinced that he will regain confidence and hopefully he will come back to us. We have been friends since we met at La Masia and I always want him to be OK.”

Gavi pledges loyalty to Barcelona

But while Gavi is keeping his eye on the Premier League, with his interest in Pep Guardiola’s fortunes at Man City arguably of some concern for Cules, he has pledged that his long-term future certainly lies at Camp Nou.

“What I would be able to do for Barca? Everything, everything. I would do everything, anything,” he explained.

“I have spent my entire childhood here at La Masia, almost since I have a conscience, it means everything to me.”

He did confess, however, that he was afraid of moving to Barcelona at the age of just 11.

“I remember that two months earlier I told my parents that I didn't want to come, that I was afraid to find whatever it was. Today I thank my parents, they were the first to be clear that they should bring me here,” he admitted.
