Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps has been informed that she will not be sold by the club, despite heavy interest from Arsenal.

The Gunners lodged a world-record offer for a goalkeeper in the women’s game, but Man Utd quickly rejected that bid as they aim to keep hold of the shot-stopper.

The Red Devils lost Alessia Russo to Arsenal on a free transfer this summer after they turned down a world-record fee for the England Lionesses star in January.

However, despite the fact Earps’ contract is set to expire next summer, Man Utd are ready to risk the same thing happening again as they have told the 30-year-old that she will not be sold before the WSL’s transfer window closes on Thursday.

That is according to the Telegraph, who have reported that club staff and Earps discussed her future at Man Utd this weekend. The England goalkeeper was reportedly told that she will not be sold this window, especially not to a rival club.

Earlier this month, The Athletic’s Charlotte Harpur reported that Arsenal are interested in signing Earps in 2024, when her contract at Man Utd expires.

Man Utd want to keep Earps

While Man Utd remain set in their stance that Earps is not for sale, they are running the risk of losing the reigning FIFA Best Goalkeeper of the Year winner on a free transfer next summer.

Furthermore, Paris Saint-Germain were interested in signing Earps in 2022, following her performances at the European Championships, meaning that Arsenal may have competition if Earps is available on a free next year.

Man Utd, however, are hoping to convince Earps to sign a new deal at the club. She joined the Red Devils from Wolfsburg in 2019 after making just six first-team appearances for the Bundesliga side following her move from Reading.

Earps is one of four England Lionesses stars to have been nominated for the 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or. Rachel Daly (Aston Villa), Millie Bright (Chelsea) and Georgia Stanway (Bayern Munich) have also been included on the shortlist.
