Man Utd and Liverpool on alert with Bayern Munich open to Gravenberch transfer

Bayern Munich are understood to be no longer ruling out the departure of Ryan Gravenberch following interest from Manchester United and Liverpool this summer.

The 21-year-old has only been at Bayern for one year but he started just three Bundesliga games last season, prompting enquiries in his services from a number of sides.

Gravenberch was a top target for Liverpool early in the summer but Bayern claimed the Dutchman was not for sale and insisted they had no desire to let the highly-rated midfielder depart.

However, Gravenberch has failed to feature in any of Bayern’s two games so far this season and has been the subject of an approach from United in recent weeks, who want to take the ex-Ajax youngster on loan.

Bayern have spent €150 million on Harry Kane and Kim Min-Jae this summer and Sky Sports claim the German side are now open to the exit of a player they paid €18.5m for last year.

United see Gravenberch as an alternative to Sofyan Amrabat and talks could be held over a transfer towards the end of the window, although it is unclear whether Bayern would seek a permanent or a loan deal.

Gravenberch is understood to be frustrated with his game time at Bayern, having been used as a bit-part player despite turning down interest from elsewhere to move to the Bundesliga outfit last year.

United were interested in Gravenberch while he was at Ajax and Erik ten Hag would be keen to reunite with one of his former players, however the Red Devils are only able to afford a loan.

Amrabat was thought to be United’s priority target in midfield but Fiorentina’s asking price of more than €30m has stalled any hopes of a deal and led to the English side exploring other options.

Liverpool, meanwhile, opted to sign Wataru Endo from Stuttgart for €18m, meaning their need for a midfielder is less pressing but the availability of one of Klopp’s long-term targets could prove an appealing option going into the final week of the transfer window.
