Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given a “green light” for the Red Devils to sign PSG midfielder Marco Verratti, according to reports.

Verratti has been put up for sale by Les Parisiens, having been told he is part of Luis Enrique’s dramatic cull at the club, which has already seen Neymar depart to Al-Hilal for €100 million.

He was not involved in the 1-1 draw against Toulouse on Saturday and has already been linked with the possibility of following his former PSG team-mate to the Saudi Pro League.

According to the Mirror, though, Ten Hag and Man Utd are ready to offer the 30-year-old Verratti the opportunity to continue playing at the top level, with the manager having given his OK to a deal.

Man Utd’s interest in a midfielder is well known. Ten Hag has been chasing a deal for Sofyan Amrabat for weeks, yet the transfer has stalled due to a lack of funds being available to complete the move.

Presently, the Red Devils are seeking to move on Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Harry Maguire in order to complete more signings before the end of the transfer window.

Verratti cheaper than Amrabat

Verratti’s transfer fee is likely to come in cheaper than that of Amrabat.

Fiorentina are thought to want €35-40m for the Morocco international star, but Verratti’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is only €31m, and given his lessening status in the PSG squad, it is possible that he is allowed to go for even less than that after 11 years at Parc des Princes.

There remains significant competition for Verratti.

According to L’Equipe, Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on the player, while interest has also emerged from Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League as well as Qatari outfit Al-Arabi.
