Liverpool have reportedly begun negotiations with Bayern Munich over a move for Ryan Gravenberch.

Manchester United have also been linked with the Netherlands midfielder, who has barely featured for Bayern since joining from Ajax last summer.

And with the transfer window slamming shut this Friday (September 1), the battle for Gravenberch’s signature could be about to seriously heat up between the two great Premier League rivals.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Liverpool’s pursuit of Gravenberch intensified today (August 30) – although he adds that a deal is still far from done.

The 21-year-old is said to favour a switch to the Reds over Man Utd, who are still trying to sign Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina.

Our in-house Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) model currently rates Gravenberch at €49.1m – but such a fee seems unrealistic given that he seems surplus to requirements at Bayern, who signed him for €18.5m.

All change in midfield at Anfield

Gravenberch could be the final piece in Liverpool’s midfield puzzle, with the 2019/20 Premier League champions already having significantly revamped that department this transfer window.

Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo have come in from Brighton, RB Leipzig and Stuttgart respectively, with all three starting as Jurgen Klopp’s side fought back from a goal and a man down to win 2-1 at Newcastle last time out.

Meanwhile, the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have left Anfield in recent months – with those two taking up lucrative offers from the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool – who have won two and drawn one of their opening three games of the campaign – are next in action this Sunday when they entertain Aston Villa; will Gravenberch part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad come then…?
