Former Arsenal and Liverpool target Jesper Lindstrom is on the verge of sealing a switch to Napoli, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Dane has been one of Eintracht Frankfurt's standout performers since arriving in the Bundesliga, helping them win the Europe League in 2021/22. Last season, he again impressed, which subsequently earned him links to some of Europe's big hitters, with Arsenal and Liverpool keen on the 23-year-old.

While those rumours eventually went cold, Newcastle United then entered the race to sign Lindstrom, who was also being courted by AC Milan and RB Leipzig. The latter even had a €25 million bid knocked back by Frankfurt, with the club perhaps reluctant to sell to a Bundesliga rival.

FootballTransfers exclusively reported in early July that Lindstrom, though generally happy at Frankfurt, was keen to leave for a Champions League club after the Eagles had experienced a late-season slump that saw them only finish seventh and that cost Lindstrom's mentor, Oliver Glasner, his job.

Now, it seems that he finally got his wish.

Lindstrom to Serie A

Having missed out on Gabri Veiga to Al-Ahli, reigning Serie A champions Napoli turned their attention to Lindstrom. With just a few days left in the window, they moved quickly to wrap up a deal and Fabrizio Romano has just given them his famous "here we go."

"Jesper Lindstrom to Napoli, here we go," he announced to his 18.4 million Twitter followers. "Verbal agreement in place with Eintracht on [a] €25m package, player side on [a] five year contract for [the] 2000 born winger. Lindstrom didn’t train with the team today as he’s prepared to travel to Italy, medical booked on Tuesday."

It appears to be the right time for Lindstrom to jump ship as Eintracht have thus far struggled to really get going after another summer rebuild, while Napoli have picked up right where they left off last term, winning both of their Serie A games with ease.
