Manchester United submitted a verbal offer for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana on Tuesday evening, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian transfer guru reports that United sent Inter a verbal offer of €45 million, which includes add-ons.

This offer was soon after confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, who reports that the bid will soon be made official.

However, the offer will almost certainly be rejected as Inter are demanding €60m in order to sell the Cameroonian.

Romano adds, though, that Onana is keen on a move to Old Trafford.

These reports from Di Marzio and Romano follow on from Alfredo Pedulla reporting last week that United were tabling an offer worth €45-50m.

Pedulla also stressed that Inter would not sell for less than €60m, so the consensus is that there is a big gap to bridge if United want to sign the 27-year-old.

Onana is Erik ten Hag’s favourite goalkeeper and he has singled him out as his preferred successor to David de Gea, who is now a free agent after his contract expired last week.

De Gea could still yet sign a new deal but Onana is Ten Hag’s preferred option to be the number one next season.

The pair worked together at Ajax, with Onana playing a key role as Ten Hag’s side reached the 2019 Chamopions League semi-final - being seconds away from making the final.

Inter need to sell this summer before they can buy and so are open to cashing in on Onana given he would represent a full profit in terms of capital gains having arrived on a free transfer.

Onana at Inter Milan

Onana only arrived at Inter a year ago on a free transfer after he saw out his contract at Ajax.

The 26-year-old has been a revelation at San Siro, soon displacing long-term number one Samir Handanovic from the starting XI.

The ex-Ajax man was one the best goalkeepers in all of Europe this season, perhaps the best of all in the Champions League.

He had more clean sheets than any goalkeeper in the Champions League, with eight shutouts taking Inter all the way to the final where they narrowly lost 1-0 to Man City.

He is brilliant with his feet and reads the game fantastically, acting as a sweeper. This is something Ten Hag particularly wants in his goalkeeper, and what De Gea is lacking from his game.
