Chelsea are one step closer to signing a striker in the summer transfer window.

That's because The Athletic are now reporting that the Blues have agreed personal terms with Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson.

The 21-year-old scored nine goals in his last eight La Liga games in the 2022-23 season.

He has a €35m release clause which means that the transfer fee shouldn't be an issue for Todd Boehly and the Chelsea hierarchy.

They will reportedly try to negotiate a different deal for the striker, probably looking to pay in instalments, but the clause is a solid option regardless.

Jackson to Chelsea

Jackson is not a name that most Chelsea fans will be familiar with.

They have become accustomed to seeing the club linked with the most high-profile players from around the world.

Just this summer, the Blues have been touted as potential destinations for Victor Osimhen, Harry Kane and Lautaro Martinez.

Though, it seems that Jackson will be the starting striker in Pochettino's side come the start of the new season.

The youngster made just 16 starts for Villarreal in the campaign just gone, having only featured as a substitute in the season prior.

And he has just two caps for the Senegal national team, indicating his inexperience at the highest level.

But Chelsea have made a name for themselves for overpaying for players in recent years.

That's always likely when you bid for players that have drummed up plenty of interest from multiple teams.

So, going in for a player that has somewhat gone under the radar is a sign that the Blues' new owners are learning to operate more shrewdly in the transfer market.
