Marcus Rashford is coming to a key crossroads in his career with his contract at Manchester United set to expire at the end of the season.

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in the England international forward while PSG have also been linked with a move for the attacker in the not-too-distant past. A move from either in January is highly unlikely, but there is a prospect of a summer transfer.

All three clubs represent potentially exciting alternatives for the in-form forward, who has three goals at the 2022 World Cup, but it is clear which one is best for the 25-year-old as he enters his peak years. Nevertheless, all have something to offer him.

PSG

The least likely of Rashford’s three summer options, PSG were nevertheless interested in signing the Man Utd star last summer, when there were doubts over his capabilities both at Old Trafford and elsewhere. This faith must play in their favour and the possibility of a move is a live one should Lionel Messi leave at the end of his deal.

The prospect of teaming up with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at the Ligue 1 side must be a tempting one.

Real Madrid

Actively reported to be interested in Rashford by Fichajes, there is no doubt that Real Madrid need a strong option in attack in addition to Karim Benzema through the centre. A lack of immediate game time at the Bernabeu could prove to be an off-putting factor as there is no guarantee that he would start anywhere across a strong forward line.

On the other hand, should he thrive, he could be the No.9 at the iconic club for years to come.

Manchester United

A new deal at Manchester United is the likeliest scenario for Rashford. The Red Devils have an option to trigger an extra year on his contract and are set to do that after a return of eight goals and three assists in 19 matches this season.

Meanwhile, he seems to be a cornerstone of manager Erik ten Hag’s plans, with United having shown signs of improvement under the Dutchman, albeit they remain only fifth in the Premier League standings with a third of the season played.

Staying at Old Trafford should not be seen by Rashford as a default option, though. He is a player who should be regularly involved in the Champions League by this juncture of his career, while he fades in and out of favour at Man Utd in a frustrating manner. Perhaps a departure is just what his game needs to be elevated to that extra level.
