Man Utd’s plans to keep Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford has been in impressive form for Manchester United this season, and he added to it with his goal at the weekend against West Ham United.
Rashford had a difficult 2021-22 campaign but has improved massively since under Erik ten Hag, already scoring more goals in this campaign than the last one.
Ten Hag has seen him as an essential part of his first-team, starting him as the centre-forward in most matches but he appreciates the Englishman’s versatility.

Now, Ten Hag sees Rashford as part of his long-term plans and wants him to be in the side for a long time, with contract talks proposed.

Rashford’s contract with Manchester Untied expires at the end of the season and the club could lose him on a free transfer come June next year.
The club are clearly not keen to lose him, let alone lose him on a free, and they are aware of the fact that he is free to talk to foreign clubs from January onwards.

To avoid being in that scenario, they want to trigger the option they have in his contract to extend his deal for one-year, before opening long-term talks later on.
They will trigger that soon if they can’t reach an agreement on a long-term deal, with the plan being to get him tied down to the club for years to come.
Manager Ten Hag sees him as an integral part of his plans and wants him to be a key part of his attack for many years to come.

Over the weekend, Rashford’s goal meant that he had now scored 100 for Manchester United, achieving the feat the day before 25-years-old.
Manchester United are still in the market for attacking players, with names like Cody Gakpo and Victor Osimhen linked, but Rashford is still expected to be important for several years ahead.
