Wolverhampton Wanderers’ midfielder Ruben Neves has been linked to a host of clubs over the last few months, with a transfer at the end of the season a real possibility.

The Portuguese has been at Wolves since the summer of 2017 and has excelled for them, helping them earn promotion to the Premier League and finding his way into the national team squad.

Now, it seems as though his time at the club is set to come to an end as several clubs across England and Europe are keeping an eye on his situation with a view to making a move for him in the future.

Neves has a club he’d like to play for, which may be of disappointing reading for those hoping to see him at the likes of Manchester United or Arsenal this summer.

Neves has Barcelona admiration

According to El Chiringuito, Neves dream destination is Barcelona, who have been keeping tabs on the player for the last few months as they look to improve their midfield.

Barcelona are hoping to sign a player to sit in front of their defensive line, and have eyes on midfielders such as Martin Zubimendi, Ibrahim Sangare and others, but Neves is a consideration.

Manager Xavi isn’t fully convinced that Neves can do the same job, and the Blaugrana have others such as Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi or Franck Kessie to sit in front if needed, which may make Neves an unnecessary signing.

Wolves have been working on extending Neves’ contract at the club but may not be able to do so as the player is ready to play at a higher level, such as at a Champions League club.

The Portuguese midfielder’s deal at Wolves runs out in 2024, and the club may be tempted to sell him in the summer to avoid losing him on a free the year after, if they can’t agree a new contract.
