Chelsea have been linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard, who was one of Grahan Potter's most valuable assets during his time at The Amex Stadium.

Trossard, 27, joined Brighton from KRC Genk back in 2019 and soon became one of Potter's most trusted players, with the Englishman using him in a variety of roles including across the frontline and at wing-back.

With Potter leaving Brighton mid-season to take up the vacant managerial role at Stamford Bridge following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel, many of the Seagulls' stars have been linked with a transfer to join Potter at Chelsea.

However, Trossard is the Brighton player who reports suggest Chelsea are most heavily pursuing, with Potter keen on being reunited with his star player.

The Belgian international's current deal on the south coast runs until 2024, meaning any suitors would be able to pick him up for a slightly cut-price deal next summer.

Trossard's form this campaign will no doubt have prompted Chelsea's hierarchy to take a look at him even without Potter's arrival, with the winger netting five goals and bagging a further two assists in the Premier League so far this season.

Newcastle also interested in Trossard

But, Chelsea aren't the only financial superpower who are interested in signing the 21-capped international. Newcastle United, who now have former Brighton sporting director Dan Ashworth in charge of operations, are also interested in landing Trossard, according to 90min.

The Magpies spent big in the summer, with the signings of Sven Botman, Nick Pope, Matt Targett and Alexander Isak, but are ready to add yet more quality to their squad as they continue to make their mark under new ownership.

So, Trossard may become engrossed in a transfer battle between his former manager and his former sporting director.

With Chelsea already possessing the likes of Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and the on-loan Callum Hudson-Odoi in their ranks, the Blues may have to clear house before they attempt to sign Trossard, a feat that proved tricky during the summer transfer window.

As a result, Potter may have to work his magic in order to persuade Trossard to accompany him at Stamford Bridge.
