Cody Gakpo, Liverpool, 2022/23

Liverpool haven't been the busiest team in terms of transfers this season, but they were nonetheless involved in one of the biggest transfers of the summer...

The Reds ended the 2021-22 campaign with two trophies – the League Cup and FA Cup – and were two wins away from completing a historic quadruple.

They worked extensively on ensuring Mohamed Salah stays at the club and their efforts were rewarded as the Egyptian signed a new contract to keep him at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp wished to keep his squad strong for the 2022-23 season and made one major reinforcement, but they’ve also lost one mainstay in the side.

Who have Liverpool signed in 2022-23?

Darwin Nunez - £67.5 million from Benfica

Fabio Carvalho - £5.3 million from Fulham

Calvin Ramsay - £4.4 million from Aberdeen

Arthur – Loan from Juventus

Cody Gakpo - £44.3 million from PSV Eindhoven

Liverpool were keen to improve their attacking line and saw Darwin Nunez as the ideal fit, bringing in the forward on a mega deal from Portuguese giants Benfica.

The Uruguayan scored 34 goals in 41 appearances for Benfica last season and Klopp felt he’d be the ideal fit to take this Liverpool team forward.

Other than that, there were no other major signings, as Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho – two emerging youngsters from Aberdeen and Fulham – were brought in to provide cover.

Arthur was a deadline day signing in the summer transfer window as Liverpool were seriously short in midfield following many injury problems in their side.

The Reds were less busy in the January transfer window, but beat Manchester United to the signing of Netherlands attacker Cody Gakpo.

Who have Liverpool sold in 2022-23?

Sadio Mane - £28.8 million to Bayern Munich

Neco Williams - £18 million to Nottingham Forest

Takumi Minamino - £13.5 million to Monaco

Marko Grujic - £8.1 million to Porto

Ben Davies - £4.2 million to Sheffield United

Divock Origi - Released

Sheyi Ojo - Released

Ben Woodburn - Released

Loris Karius – Released

Liverpool lost a key figure in Sadio Mane – he was crucial to Jurgen Klopp’s era at Anfield, winning one of every trophy possible and leaves the club with a legendary status.

Neco Williams was an example of Liverpool’s impressive selling record this summer – the Reds received a big fee from his sale to Nottingham Forest.

Takumi Minamino also had a fine reputation at Liverpool for his goals in cup matches and he contributed to their two cup successes last season – he’s now set to play for Monaco.

Marko Grujic ended a long Liverpool career this summer and he’s now been sold to Porto, while Ben Davies short Liverpool career has ended too as they made a profit on his sale to Sheffield United.

Other players such as Divock Origi, Loris Karius, Ben Woodburn and Sheyi Ojo have been released as their contracts ran out and their Anfield careers have come to an end.

Sepp van der Berg – Loan to Schalke

Rhys Williams – Loan to Blackpool

Highly-rated Sepp van der Berg has been loaned out to Bundesliga club Schalke to get more experience as Liverpool hope he can achieve his potential in the long-run.
