Arsenal made a €30 million deadline day bid for Ferran Torres, according to El Nacional.

The Gunners were in the market for an outside attacker in the final days of the window.

Their primary target was Pedro Neto of Wolves but when that deal could not be done they began to look elsewhere.

El Nacional reports that Arsenal offered €30m for Barcelona’s Ferran Torres.

Torres only joined Barcelona in January of this year in a €65m transfer from Man City.

However, he has largely struggled at Camp Nou and has scored only four goals.

Since the summer arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, he has now lost his place in the starting XI.

Barcelona are said to have been open to selling Torres when they received the bid.

However, the transfer was vetoed by Barca manager Xavi, who is reported to have made it clear that he considers Torres as not for sale.

Could Arsenal return to Ferran Torres in January?

Nevertheless, Barcelona’s stance as a club certainly opens up the possibility that Arsenal could return for another bid in January.

Barca are heavily stacked with attackers and it is well-known that they need to cut costs and the salary of the squad.

Barca were one of the highest spenders in Europe in the summer transfer window, spending heavily on the likes of Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, as well as free transfers Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen.

The Blaugrana also offloaded some players, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Arsenal were also big spenders, signings stars such as Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Marquinhos and Matt Turner.
