Arsenal are closing in on a move for Villarreal attacker Yeremy Pino in a transfer that has left the dressing room of the Spanish club shaken.

The 19-year-old was one of the breakout stars of La Liga last season as he scored six times in 31 outings for the club, building on a debut season in which he found the target on three occasions.

Yeremy also won his first Spain cap during 2021/22, notably netting in a friendly victory over Iceland in La Coruna.

It is form that has caught the eye of Arsenal, who are seeking both an attacking option and young talent to strength their squad for years ahead. In Yeremy, who was born in Las Palmas, they appear to have found a player who checks both boxes.

Reports earlier in the week suggest that a €40 million (£34m) will be accepted for the diminutive winger, and team-mate Gerard Romero has admitted it is a deal that has stunned the dressing room of the club.

Speaking to AS he was asked what the mood is like in the dressing room. He replied: “There are rumours of comings and goings, but we try to watch from the sidelines. There are things that you cannot stop seeing or commenting on. For example, the news about Pino is shocking because he is a very important player and that makes you watch out for him.”

Yeremy vs La Liga wingers

Yeremy was one of the leading wingers in La Liga last season, already rating among the top players in his position according to data analytics experts SciSports.

Although Villarreal do have strength in this area of the field thanks to Arnaut Danjuma and Samuel Chukwueze, his age makes him stand out.

Yeremy, who turned down the chance to move to Barcelona in 2017, will match Cedric Bakambu to Guoan as Villarreal’s biggest sales if a €40m transfer to Arsenal is completed.
