Manchester United had a tough start to the season, but are in a more positive mood having beaten Liverpool earlier in the week, and one club legend has spoken about their underperforming stars.

Patrice Evra has spoken about the likes of Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw about their poor displays, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo, as he wishes to leave the club in the transfer window.

All three were dropped against Liverpool, with their stand-ins performing well and spurring the team on to victory and kickstart Erik ten Hag’s time at Old Trafford.

Evra discussed the negativity around Magurie, and feels that his price tag is catching up to him, speaking to Betfair about the centre-back.

Evra speaks on Man Utd players

He said: "I can say people are too harsh on Harry Maguire, but he is paying the price for his transfer fee. From that day, I said he is going to have the most difficult season for United because people only looked at the price.

"If we bought him for £5m, people would say he's an amazing centre-back. We all have bad games but now we've got to a point where even if he has a good game people are not happy. So there's a negativity around him."

Evra also added on the situation around his old team-mate, Cristiano Ronaldo, and feels it would be best for all parties to part ways. "The Cristiano Ronaldo saga is another issue. Is he staying? Is he leaving?

“He's still here, the transfer window isn't closed but I think, personally knowing Cristiano, if he doesn't play he would like to leave. I think this would be the best for him and for United.”

Finally, he commented on Shaw’s form, and says he hasn’t been as good as the club’s other great left-backs of the past, including himself.

The Frenchman said: "We've been playing Luke Shaw for so many years and I'm really careful when I talk about left-backs because I've been in this position and it's not an easy position.

"Luke Shaw has been here for so many years and he hasn't matched the standard set by Denis Irwin or myself, and I think left-back is a really crucial position for United.

"Maybe it's time for those players [Maguire, Ronaldo and Shaw] to go."

It seems unlikely that all three will leave in the same window, with United already blocking out interest in Maguire and the club yet to receive a formal offer for the transfer of Ronaldo.
