After a summer of speculation, with talk of a move away from Manchester City, Bernardo Silva has hit the ground running to start 2021/22. Across his first 22 appearances of the season, the Portuguese already has seven goals and two assists, while he has contributed so much more to the overall play of Pep Guardiola’s side.

Jack Grealish’s arrival was expected to take playing time away from Bernardo Silva, but the competition for minutes appears to have motivated the former Benfica and Monaco man, who is wowing fans every time he steps on to the pitch.

Bernardo Silva’s new contract

Still just 27 years of age, Bernardo Silva has a lot of top-quality football left in his boots and Manchester City are looking to tie him down for a few more years, even though his current deal already runs to 2025. They’re so impressed that they’d be willing to offer him a deal even beyond that current end date.

More importantly, the club are also keen to improve their playmaker’s salary, a reward for recent performances. According to The Sun, his wages could almost double to reach approximately £300,000 per week.

That would make Bernardo Silva one of the very top earners in the Manchester City squad, alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling.

Guardiola’s praise for Bernardo Silva

Pep Guardiola has been singing Bernardo Silva’s praises this season, taking time to wax lyrical about the 27-year-old in several of his press conferences.

On the player, Guardiola said: “He is the best. He was the best two or three seasons ago. He was the best then too. He has a special ability to do whatever he wants with the ball. You have to go back to when we won with 98 points, review the videos, you will see the same player like this right now.”
