There will be a queue of clubs ready to sign Raheem Sterling, says former Man City star

Former Manchester City favourite Trevor Sinclair believes Raheem Sterling will not be short in suitors this summer if he or Man City decide his time at the club has come to an end.

Sterling signed from Liverpool for £49 million in the summer of 2015 and has went on to enjoy huge success, winning three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and four League Cups.

He helped Man City reach the Champions League final for the first time in the club’s history last weekend and started the game against Chelsea, but failed to impress and was eventually substituted, with the Blues going on to win 1-0.

The England international was criticised for his performance in the match, like he has been for his overall performance in the second half of the season which has seen him lose his place to Phil Foden.

FootballTransfers previously suggested three clubs who could be interested in taking him off Man City’s hands this summer.

Whether it is one of those three or someone else, Sinclair believes Sterling will be spoiled for choice.

“I might be wrong, but reading between the lines and the media that’s being released, I think they’d be prepared to let him go,” the former City winger told talkSPORT.

“I think there’s a potential move for Raheem this summer.

“You look at the individual; there are a few little rumours coming out that Man City are prepared to listen to offers.

“You look at the way he’s played during his time at Man City and he has been superb.”

“I think they’ll be a queue of clubs wanting to sign him, not on the last three or four months of form but on his previous nine years of performances.

“He’s not had any real injury problems. I look at him and he doesn’t look excited; he looks anxious about being out there.

How has Sterling performed this season?

Premier League only

In the three seasons prior to this past one Sterling has been superb, scoring 18 in the Premier League in 2017/18, 17 in 2018/19 and then a career-best 21 in 2019/20.

Though his assists have improved from last season, he has scored 11 less goals.

Seventeen goal contributions is still an admirable outlay for 2020/21, but there is a decrease in all three of the seasons previous.
