In a bid to tie down their biggest stars, Liverpool are reportedly set to offer Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Alisson new contracts to avoid a similar situation to the one they find themselves in with Georginio Wijnaldum.

The club are resigned to losing the Dutch midfielder on a free this summer, after his contract expires, and want to ensure that the same thing doesn’t happen with their most prized assets.

Time is certainly on Liverpool’s side with the current contracts of Salah, Van Dijk and Fabinho expiring in 2023 and goalkeeper Alisson’s deal not running out until 2024, but it’s understood that they want new deals on the table as soon as possible.

Liverpool currently sit seventh in the Premier League, three points behind West Ham in fourth, and want to tie down the core of their side to long contracts in a bid to challenge for the title once again.

Mohamed Salah

Salah is perhaps the most likely to seek a move away, with rumours earlier in the year suggesting that the club would be willing to sell their star winger to fund a move for Kylian Mbappe. However, these recent reports paint a different picture, and it appears the Reds want to keep hold of the Egyptian.

It’s no surprise either; he has scored 120 goals and assisted 41 in just 193 games for Liverpool and has constantly been able to drag them out of a hole with moments of magic that only a handful of players in world football can produce.

He is a world class talent, and Liverpool would be rather foolish to let him leave.

Virgil van Dijk

It’s no coincidence that Van Dijk’s injury, and subsequent absence from the team, has had a monumental effect on Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The 2019 Ballon d’Or runner-up is arguably the best central defender in the world, and his impact on this Liverpool side since his move from Southampton has quite frankly been exceptional.

The club will be desperate to retain the Dutchman, and considering his age and market value, it’s almost impossible to envisage him moving elsewhere anytime soon.

Fabinho

Forced to play centre-half due to injury woes, Fabinho has recently moved back into defensive midfield and it’s not a surprise at all that Liverpool have played far better with him there.

He breaks up play so often and distributes it forward so effectively that his absence in the No.6 role was missed just as sorely as Van Dijk’s absence in defence.

Underrated by many, Klopp knows the value that his Brazilian midfielder holds.

Alisson

In between the sticks Alisson has made a few errors this campaign, but since his move from Roma in 2018, he has been the best goalkeeper in the league, and a huge upgrade on his predecessors.

With 55 clean sheets and 95 goals conceded in just 120 games, Alisson has been an excellent addition, and keeping hold of him is vital as a replacement would not be cheap.
