Miguel Almiron insists he is currently “happy” at Newcastle Utd, but says that if he was to move away from the club in the future his desire would be to remain in the Premier League.

Earlier in the season, Almiron’s future at Newcastle was called into question when his agent Daniel Campos stated his belief that his client would leave the club probably in the summer of 2021.

Campos claimed that Atletico Madrid had made their interest known in the Paraguayan attacking midfielder, but made no mention of any other club.

Commenting on his own future, Almiron put Newcastle fans at ease for now, telling GEN:

“I’m very happy playing. I’m happy if I’m playing on Saturday or Wednesday. It’s a sacrifice but above all, the footballer enjoys it and more if they’re playing it in the Premier League

Looking to the future and a potential transfer away from Newcastle, though, he admitted his desire to remain in Europe, and if possible, join another Premier League club, or River Plate later in his career.

“My goal is to stay in Europe. If God allows me, it’ll be in the Premier League which is very competitive, I know that I have to work hard,” Almiron revealed.

“I always wanted to play at River Plate. It was one of my dreams but I don’t know if that’s possible. Going back to Cerro Porteno would be great.”

At the moment, Newcastle are currently down in 15th in the Premier League, eight points above the relegation zone.

Almiron thinks he and his team-mates have what it takes to pull the club away from trouble, though.

“The Premier League is a difficult league with great players and at the club, we’re fighting to always do our best,” he said.

“I think being near the relegation zone is something temporary & we are going to move forward.”

Since joining Newcastle in January of the 2018/29 season, he has made 56 starts in the Premier League, scoring six goals and recording three assists in that time.
