Alvaro Morata has lashed out at his now-former club Galatasaray for failing to honour their contractual obligations.

The Spain international has departed the Istanbul giants just six months into a year-long loan. Morata has returned to Italy, where parent club AC Milan have sent him to Como for the upcoming campaign.

According to Galatasaray, the contract with Morata was 'mutually terminated,' with Milan forced to pay a €5m termination fee and the striker waiving €651,562 in 'receivables.'

However, there are two sides to every story, and Morata believes that he was compelled to leave the club because Galatasaray failed to honour their contractual obligations.

In an explosive statement, the 32-year-old has accused the Turkish club of 'failing to compensate' him for his work in what will be an ominous warning to the club's marquee signing Victor Osimhen, who is due to receive a club-record €15 million annual salary after his €75m move.

Morata slams Galatasaray

"Dear Gala fans and the people of Turkey, I want to sincerely thank you for the affection, warmth, and support you have shown me", Morata's statement began. "You made me feel welcome from the very first day, and your support has been among the most extraordinary I have ever experienced in my career.

"Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about my experience with the club. There were moments when the given word and the respect for fundamental values were not upheld.

"Until the very end, the commitments made were not honoured, to the point where I was left with no choice but to forgo part of my salary and other contractual rights I had already earned through my work (the figure published is not accurate).

"For me, in life and in work, there are principles that should never be broken, such as respect for each person’s rights. Failing to recognise and compensate what has been earned is, to me, unacceptable and contrary to the values of fairness and professionalism I believe in.

He added: "I know these matters are often not spoken about openly, but I believe it is right to give the fans the real explanation of what happened. You and the city of Istanbul will always remain in my heart, and I wish you the very best, today and in the future."
