Erling Braut Haaland is proving to be one of the most fascinating players to watch in the 2022/23 football season following his high-profile transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City.

The Norway striker spent two-and-a-half prolific seasons in the Bundesliga with Dortmund before completing his €60 million switch to the Premier League.

EUROPEAN GOLDEN SHOE 2022-23

A year on from failing to sign Harry Kane, Guardiola and City hope Haaland can be the final piece they need – the focal point in attack – in their ongoing pursuit of Champions League glory.

Individually, Haaland entered the campaign ready to battle the likes of Mohamed Salah, Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo for the golden boot as part of a star-studded Premier League.

His official debut came in the Community Shield against title rivals Liverpool on July 30. However, it was somewhat of a debut to forget as Haaland missed a sitter, blazing over the bar with the goal at his mercy as City lost 3-1.

His introduction to the Premier League was spectacular, though. He netted in his debut against West Ham, and though he was criticised for his role in a 4-0 win over Bournemouth, he bounced back with a double against Newcastle in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The best was still to come, though, as he converted back-to-back hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest to give him the best goalscoring start ever to a Premier League season.

He continued that momentum into September. In the first match following the close of the transfer window, he grabbed the opener against Aston Villa after being set up by Kevin De Bruyne. The game finished in a disappointing 1-1 draw, though.

His Champions League debut for City was memorable as Haaland scored twice in a 4-0 thrashing of Sevilla away.

And he found the net in Champions League matchday two, as well, hitting home an acrobatic winner in the 2-1 victory over his former team Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland scored his 100th goal since 2020 in the 3-0 victory over Wolves a few days later.

After the international break, Haaland made it a record three successive hat-tricks at home as City thrashed rivals Man Utd 6-3 at the Etihad. He also grabbed two assists in a memorable match.

And he took his seasonal tally to 19 goals in 12 games with a double in the Champions League win over Copenhagen.

His scoring form continued the following weekend as Man City recorded another comfortable victory, this time a 4-0 success over Southampton. Haaland would get the last goal of City's quartet of strikes, slapping a left-footed shot into the net to take him to 20 for the season.

Haaland was granted some rest for the visit to Denmark as he sat and watched from the bench as 10-men City got a 0-0 draw against Copenhagen in Champions League matchday four.

He was back in the starting XI against Liverpool at Anfield but hit a rare blank as Man City lost 1-0.

Never one to be denied goals for long, Haaland was back on target with a brace as City then beat Brighton 3-1 in the Premier League.

Haaland got another City start in the Champions League against former employers Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, but he drew a blank before being subbed off for Bernardo Silva at half-time due to injury.

He then missed the 1-0 win over Leicester and 3-1 victory over Sevilla due to the problem, but was fit enough to come off the bench in City's 2-1 win over Fulham on the Saturday, and bagged the game-winning goal with a 95th-minute penalty.

Haaland sat and watched from the bench as City beat Chelsea 2-0 in the EFL Cup. He returned to play the full 90 minutes in the last game before the World Cup, a 2-1 defeat at home to Brentford.

Haaland did not play during the World Cup as Norway didn't qualify. He returned to action with Man City with a goal just 10 minutes into the 3-2 League Cup win over Liverpool on December 22.

And he was in action in the Premier League six days later as Man City travelled to Elland Road to play Leeds United. Haaland continued his scoring streak with two goals in a 3-1 win. Notably he did not celebrate either of those goals due to his great affinity with Leeds - he was actually born and raised there when his father Alf played for Leeds United.

Haaland's goal-grabbing form continued on New Year's Eve as Manchester City tackled Everton at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola's side suffered a disappointing 1-1 draw, but that was not for the want of trying from their star man. Of course, it was he who opened the scoring before a shock Demarai Gray equaliser with 25 minutes left salvaged a point for Frank Lampard's side.

Haaland played the full 90 minutes as Man City won 1-0 at Chelsea in their first game of 2023 before being rested days later as City beat the same opponents in the FA Cup. He also started on the bench for the EFL Cup quarter-final against Southampton, being introduced on 56 minutes as City were eliminated.

His goalless run stretched to three appearances, though, as Manchester City were defeated 2-1 by Manchester United in the Premier League. After grabbing a treble against the same opponents earlier in the season, Haaland was criticised for his display in this match, during which his influence was limited to a handful of touches.

Haaland was back among the goals in the 4-2 comeback win over Tottenham, before hitting a brilliant treble - his fourth hat-trick of the season - in the 3-0 victory over Wolves.

The Norwegian started City's following game against Arsenal in the FA Cup, but although he got the 90 minutes, it was Nathan Ake who got the only goal in a 1-0 win for Guardiola's side.

Haaland led the line again the following week as City lost 1-0 to Arsenal's north London rivals Tottenham.

He went a third game without scoring in the win against Aston Villa but did assist Ilkay Gundogan's goal. He was subbed at half-time with a thigh injury.

Haaland was then passed fit to play against league leaders Arsenal on Wednesday, and he got back to scoring ways with the third in a 3-1 win, finding the corner with a rare right-footed finish.

He was not so fortunate the following Saturday, though, as City were held to a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest that saw them lose ground in the Premier League title race. Haaland had a big chance in that encounter but spurned it as Guardiola's side dropped two important points.

Haaland then played the full 90 minutes as City were held to a 1-1 draw by RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena in the Champions League. Riyad Mahrez got City's goal, though, which was cancelled out by transfer target Josko Gvardiol.

A matter of days later, he was in the Manchester City side that battered Bournemouth 4-1. This proved to be a special occasion as his close-range finish meant that he had scored 27 goals for the Premier League side - the most ever by a City player in the competition during a season. Remarkably, it came in just the 25th game of the season.

Haaland was rested for the 3-0 FA Cup win over Bristol City but was back in action against Newcastle in the Premier League days later when he assisted Bernardo Silva for the second goal in a 2-0 win.

He returned to the scoresheet the following week against, scoring the only goal of the game with a late penalty in City's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Haaland then smashed all kinds of records as Man City thrashed RB Leipzig 7-0 in the Champions League, hitting five of their goals to become the club's single-season top scorer in history, as well as the youngest to pull onto 30 Champions League goals.

In the FA Cup quarter-final, Haaland scored a hat-trick against Vincent Kompany's Burnley to book a place at Wembley.

He was subsequently injured ahead of international duty with Norway, and sat out of City's 4-1 win over Liverpool in the first game back.

Haaland returned a week later though, and hit a fine brace - the second of them a stunning overhead-kick - as City beat Southampton 4-1.

Back in European action on Tuesday, Haaland scored one and assisted another as Man City romped past Bayern Munich 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. Haaland's strike pulled him onto 45 for the season.

His chase to 50 goals for the season continued at a pace against Leicester in the Premier League. He would score twice in the first half before being preserved for the second leg of Bayern by Guardiola, underlining his importance to the team and the measure of control that City had over the game.

Despite that break, Haaland did not have his best match at the Allianz Arena, though he still managed to get the opening goal in a 1-1 draw. He did, however, miss just the third penalty of his career, sending his kick high over Yann Sommer's goal.

Haaland was a perhaps surprise inclusion from the start as Man City beat Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-finals the following Saturday, although he drew a blank, leaving it to Riyadh Mahrez to score all three goals.

City had been chasing Arsenal down at the top and they inflicted a big blow in the title race on April 25 by thrashing them 4-1 at the Etihad, Haaland scoring the fourth.

They moved top of the league on April 30 by winning 2-1 at Fulham, Haaland scoring the opener from the penalty spot.

That goal saw Haaland equal Andy Cole and Alan Shearer's joint high of 34 goals in a Premier League campaign – before he struck in City's 2-0 home win over West Ham three days later to set a new record of 35.

Haaland failed to score in his next game against Leeds despite City winning a penalty late in the game, with the Norwegian allowing Ilkay Gundogan an opportunity to complete his hat-trick, however the German missed his spot kick, causing a nervy end to the 2-1 victory.

The City striker continued his mini drought in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid as teammate Kevin de Bruyne got on the scoresheet instead in a 1-1 draw.

But he bounced back straight away at the weekend as City edged closer to another Premier League title by beating Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park. Haaland scored City's second.

Haaland again drew a blank in the second leg of the Champions League semis – although it didn't exactly matter as City thumped Real 4-0 to advance to the final 5-1 on aggregate.

He was rested from the start in the 1-0 win over Chelsea, coming on for the last 16 minutes as City celebrated winning another league championship.

Haaland played the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw at Brighton before sitting out the final Premier League game of the season in the 1-0 defeat to Brentford.

This page will be regularly updated to showcase Haaland's individual club statistics for Manchester City throughout the season.

Erling Haaland 2021-22 stats

Haaland had a frustrating final season with Dortmund in 2021-22, with hamstring and hip injuries limiting his opportunity to post a huge goal total while the team were unable to win a trophy.

He did still produce some impressive statistics, scoring 29 goals in all competitions from 30 appearances, just 26 of which were starts.

Haaland finished with 22 Bundesliga goals from 24 league outings, also adding eight assists across those games.

Only European Golden Shoe winner Robert Lewandowski and Patrik Schick ended up with higher goal totals in the German top-flight.

There were some tremendous performances from Haaland during the season, including the opening day on August 14 when he scored twice and set up the other three goals in a memorable 5-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, while he also netted a double in a 4-3 win at Bayer Leverkusen in September.

But Dortmund failed to progress from their Champions League group and were then stunned by Rangers in the Europa League, a last-32 tie they lost 6-4 on aggregate without the injured Haaland.

A Haaland hat-trick against Bochum in April could not stop Dortmund from going down to a dramatic 4-3 defeat, but he finished on a high by scoring in his last appearance for the club – a 2-1 victory over Hertha Berlin on May 14.

While Dortmund ended up without silverware, they did finish second to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga table.

Erling Haaland 2020-21 stats

The 2020-21 season was the first full season Haaland spent with Dortmund, having signed in January 2020 and played the second half of the previous campaign.

Haaland exceeded expectations with a remarkable display of goalscoring.

Across all competitions, he made 41 appearances (40 starts) and scored a remarkable 41 goals.

He also added 10 assists, giving him 51 goal involvements over the season.

Haaland scored 27 goals in the Bundesliga from 28 games (27 starts), with six of his assists coming in that competition.

Haaland scored 41 goals and had 10 assists
© ProShots - Haaland scored 41 goals and had 10 assists

He scored 10 times in eight Champions League matches, enough to make him the top scorer in that competition for the first time in his career.

Dortmund finished third in the Bundesliga and made the UCL quarter-finals before going out to Manchester City.

They did win silverware in the DFB-Pokal, with Haaland and Jadon Sancho both scoring twice as Dortmund defeated RB Leipzig 4-1 in the final.

That gave Haaland his first major trophy in Germany, having previously won two leagues and the cup in Austria with Salzburg.
