Cristhian Mosquera to Arsenal deal hits unexpected snag - what we know
Arsenal's signing of Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera has been delayed due to 'complications' during his medical, according to club insiders.
The Gunners managed to agree a deal to sign the Spain youth international earlier this week, having returned to the negotiating table with an improved bid after seeing their opening offer rejected.
Arsenal will reportedly end up paying around €18 million for Mosquera, who only had a year left to run on his Valencia contract and had no intention of agreeing fresh terms.
The North London club swooped for the 21-year-old after a move to RB Leipzig fell through. Mosquera had agreed terms with the Bundesliga side, but no agreement on a fee could be reached.
The deal between Arsenal and Valencia was agreed on Monday, and Mosquera left Spain to fly to London for his medical on Tuesday morning. However, the end of the week is approaching, and Arsenal have yet to unveil the defender.
Mosquera delay explained
Arsenal are jetting off for their pre-season tour of Asia on Saturday evening and fully expected to have Mosquera on the plane. However, a delay in the finalisation of his transfer could now see him miss the initial flight to Singapore.
According to club insiders Team News and Tix and Hand of Arsenal, there have been unforeseen 'complications' in recent days, although the move is not believed to be in danger at this point.
The former source has claimed that there was an issue with the player's medical, with the exact problem not able to be disclosed for reasons of confidentiality. The latter, meanwhile, states that this snag has caused some paperwork issues.
Both are, however, confident that this transfer will ultimately be finalised, and there is still hope that Mosquera will be able to catch the flight to Singapore on Saturday.
