Mbeumo and Ekitike update

Manchester United have finally reached an agreement to sign Bryan Mbuemo and Romano has revealed that the transfer has been officially completed.

He told his YouTube channel: “Bryan Mbemo is at Carrington to sign his contract with Manchester United, the five-year deal is completed. Everything has been signed between the clubs and on the player side.

“The medical is done, he has a five-year contract and Man Utd will pay £65 million, plus add-ons. The Mbeumo deal is now completed.”

Romano added: “We also have a ‘here we go’ because Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle for Hugo Ekitike. I told you Liverpool will try for Alexander Isak and if they can't sign Isak, they will go for Ekitike and here they are.

“Agreement done for Ekitike for a deal that can touch €95m with add-ons included. But let me clarify that realistic add-ons bring the deal to €90m and difficult add-ons bring the deal eventually to €95m. So the deal is €80m, plus €10m in add-ons with €5m in complicated add-ons. This is the deal between Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt for Ekitike.

“This is the agreement, it is almost done and just waiting on the formal steps now to follow. What's important to mention also is that Ekitike wanted to go to Liverpool in a very strong and clear way.

“He had the opportunity to go to Newcastle, he had several other clubs interested in him, but a six-year contract at Liverpool was his only priority for this transfer window.”

Gyokeres hijack

Meanwhile, Manchester United have been tipped to hijack Arsenal’s move for Viktor Gyokeres, but Romano has now set the record straight.

“I want to clarify something about Man Utd and Viktor Gyokeres,” he said. “Some very important outlets in Portugal are reporting that Man Utd have been working on a deal for Gyokeres in recent days.

“Earlier this week, I told you that Man Utd will sign an important striker this summer. Not that Cunha and Mbeumo are done, the focus for them is the striker and many agents in the market are aware about this.

“For example, someone internally at Eintracht Frankfurt expected Man Utd to try to enter the race for Ekitike when the deal collapsed with Newcastle. Man Utd were calling to be informed on the situation with Ekitike, but the player decided to go to Liverpool and there was no chance to enter into the deal.

“What about Gyokeres? I'm not aware of an official bid from Man Utd and I'm not aware of club-to-club talks. Despite intermediaries suggesting the opportunity for Man Utd to enter into the deal for Gyokeres, it’s very clear that Gyokeres wants to go to Arsenal. He is only convinced about the Arsenal project and he agreed personal terms with them two weeks ago.”

Jackson to Man Utd?

While a move for Gyokeres is off the table, Man Utd are keeping tabs on Nicolas Jackson, as exclusively reported by FootballTransfers and now confirmed by Romano.

“I told you earlier in the week that Nicolas Jackson is an option for Man Utd,” Romano revealed. “At the moment, I'm not aware of talks ongoing with Chelsea, but Man Utd are informed about the situation of Jackson. They know that the player is not untouchable at Chelsea and so they are aware of the eventual conditions for his exit this summer.

“While at Chelsea there is still an appreciation for Alejandro Garnacho for example. So maybe that could be a scenario, but at the moment there is not a negotiation. At the moment there is no club-to-club talks about that.

“But, Man Utd are expected to go for a striker and one of the names being mentioned internally in the recent weeks is also Benjamin Sesko, another player who is well known at Manchester United. But before entering into concrete negotiations, we have to wait and see what's going to happen internally at Man Utd in terms of outgoings.”

“Marcus Rashford is going to Barcelona, but then there is Jadon Sancho, there is Antony and there is Alejandro Garnacho, so that's going to be really important.”

Man Utd to sign a new goalkeeper?

Romano then provided the latest state of play regarding Man Utd’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper amid concerns over Andre Onana’s form.

“For the goalkeeper, they have an experienced option like Emiliano Martinez, who would be keen on a move to Man Utd, but at the moment there are still no direct negotiations with Aston Villa,” Romano admitted.

“Then there is Senne Lammens - save this name. I'm told Man Utd have an interest in this player. He's been scouted and monitored in the recent months.

“He's a talented goalkeeper and Man Utd now have to decide internally what they want to do with the goalkeeper; whether they want to bring a big important goalkeeper like Martinez or if they want to bring a young profile with the opportunity to grow behind Andre Onana.

“There will be internal talks to understand the best option, but Man United remain very active on the striker position and on the goalkeeper position.”
