England star Ivan Toney arrested for assault after 'headbutting' fan at London bar
England star Ivan Toney is understood to have been arrested after headbutting a fan who tried to take a selfie with him in a London bar last weekend.
Toney, who plays in Saudi Arabia for Al-Ahli, was arrested during the early hours of Saturday December 6 according to The Sun, who provided videos and photos of the incident.
It is alleged that a fan ‘grabbed’ Toney for a selfie at Soho’s 100 Wardour St in central London, prompting the 29-year-old to react strongly and headbutt the man.
A witness is quoted as seeing Toney walk past a table of men when one ‘tried to put his hands around his neck to get a photo with him’, to which the striker told him to ‘get off’ and left the fan with ‘blood leaking from the bridge of his nose’.
The Met Police confirmed: “We were called to Wardour Street at 00:47hrs on Saturday following reports of an assault. The victim was taken to hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.
“A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of two counts of assault and one count of affray. He has since been released on bail while inquiries continue.”
Toney facing controversy ahead of January transfer window as England star pushes for World Cup place
Toney was in London on a mid-season break, with Al-Ahli not playing another fixture until December 19, and the former Brentford star is believed to have been led out the bar in handcuffs shortly after the incident.
While in London, Toney was seen with England teammate Declan Rice after Arsenal beat Brentford, with a photo posted of the pair on social media.
Having moved to Saudi Arabia last summer, Toney has been linked with a return to the Premier League in January ahead of the 2026 World Cup, although issues with his wages and taxes could prevent any move.
It remains to be seen whether this incident affects Toney’s prospect of a transfer or his chances of featuring for England next summer, having received the most recent of his seven caps in June.
