AC Milan and AS Roma have both been linked with making shock moves for Harry Maguire in the January transfer window.

TalkSport reports that Milan would like to sign Maguire in 2024 in order to pair the Man Utd man with fellow Englishman Fikayo Tomori at the heart of the defence.

Milan need to upgrade in this area as Simon Kjaer is getting older and will likely leave at the end of the season, while Pierre Kalulu has lost form over the last year.

Meanwhile, Calciomercato says that Roma would like to buy Maguire. Manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to sign a centre back in the January transfer window as Roma have been very leaky so far this season and are short on numbers in the area.

Tottenham’s Eric Dier is another centre back that Mourinho has been looking at ahead of January.

Milan and Roma will face competition from West Ham, who are considered favourites to sign Maguire in 2024.

Maguire was close to leaving United for the Hammers during the summer and it has been reported in recent days that West Ham are returning to make a new offer in January.

West Ham had a bid of around £30 million for Maguire reportedly accepted in August, having fallen short with their opening bid.

But the move then collapsed, with Maguire’s salary requests blamed for the failure to complete a deal.

West Ham could now return to make a new move in January.

Maguire was transfer listed by Man Utd this past summer after falling well down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

He is still available for sale if the right offer arrives in the winter window.

Maguire has endured two miserable past years for Man Utd, ever since Euro 2020.

After an error-prone 2021-22 season, he finally lost his place in the first team during the 2022-23 campaign as manager Erik ten Hag preferred Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his centre back pairing.

Maguire also started the current season down the pecking order but an injury crisis has seen him gain more playing time recently.

Maguire joined Man Utd from Leicester in a world record deal for a defender in 2019.

He has made 179 appearances and scored seven goals.
