Man Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea? Ranking the contenders to sign Abraham this summer

Roma striker Tammy Abraham has excited a number of Premier League clubs by suggesting that he would be open to a return to English football at some point in his career.
The England international made the move to Roma this summer for a reported fee of €38 million and has been nothing short of remarkable for Jose Mourinho’s side since then.

To date, Abraham has bagged an impressive 23 goals and four assists in 41 games across all competitions.
And when asked about returning to the Premier League, the young striker certainly didn’t want to rule it out.
Speaking with talkSPORT, he said: “It’s all over the place at the moment. Who knows what the future holds.
“Of course I grew up in England and I’m a London boy so maybe one day I will be back in the Premier League to make noise there.
“But, for me right now, it’s about focusing in Rome. It’s about focusing on doing the best I can and hopefully I can win these guys a trophy, which they haven’t won in many years.”
So which English clubs are leading the race for Abraham and who will most likely bring him back to the English top flight?
1. Manchester United
At the moment Manchester United are undoubtedly the most likely candidate to sign Abraham for a number of reasons.
For a start, the Old Trafford giants have the financial means to match Roma’s price for the striker, which is likely to be north of €60-70m.
Another reason why Man Utd are in front is also due to the fact that they will be in desperate need of a new No.9 this summer and will be able to promise Abraham a starting role in their team.
2. Arsenal
Another English giant who could tempt Abraham back to England are Arsenal, who are also in desperate need of a new no.9 this summer.
The North London club will be on the hunt for a successor to Alexandre Lacazette in a few months time and certainly have the budget to match Roma’s demands. Add to that the possibility of playing in the Champions League next season and Mikel Arteta’s side are certainly an intriguing prospect.
3. Chelsea
There are undoubtedly a few factors that rule out a return to Chelsea for Abraham in the short-term.
For a start, the club already has a No.9 in Romelu Lukaku, who will continue to demand a starting role in Thomas Tuchel’s side until he’s sold. Another factor is simply that Abraham may not wish to return to a side that struggled to offer him game time.
However, Chelsea do have a buy-back clause in Abraham’s contract for the summer of 2023 and by that point the club could have a new manager in charge and a vacancy in the No.9 position. At which point, Abraham may be more than happy to return to his former club.
