Nuno Espirito Santo refused to confirm whether Callum Wilson will leave West Ham United before the end of the January transfer window following his late winner versus Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Englishman, who joined the east London side on a Bosman deal in August, has been heavily linked with a departure and Scottish Premiership giants Celtic are among the clubs reportedly interested in completing a deal.

Rumours have suggested that Wilson could mutually terminate his contract at West Ham this month and an agreement was understood to be close last week.

However, he returned to West Ham’s matchday squad against Spurs on Saturday afternoon and he bagged a stoppage time winner for the Hammers just two minutes after replacing January signing Taty Castellanos.

After the match, Nuno was asked whether Wilson is now set to stay at West Ham for the remainder of the season and he remained tight-lipped in response. “I don’t have to say anything to Callum. He knows he has so much. I’m so happy for him,” the West Ham boss told BBC Sport (via The Daily Record).

“He gave us the winning goal, he means a lot. We are still in the market to bring players, we need to rebalance the squad. Rumours, rumours, rumours. We are doing things properly.

“Every player that is in the building, it’s up to us to count on them, support them, and they need to help us. They need to help the club.”

Martin O’Neill responds to Callum Wilson rumours

Celtic boss Martin O’Neill was also asked about the possibility of signing Wilson before the end of the January window, although he was keen to play down speculation of a transfer.

“I noticed last night when I was reading the news that Sky had said that [Celtic enquired about Wilson]... I hadn’t done,” O’Neill told reporters on Friday.

“He’s a very fine player, but I’d heard in the background that he might have been going to Leicester City or something like that. [Saudi too].

“Yeah, so couldn’t compete with that. But no, he’s a very, very fine player. He’s been injury-stricken now for the last number of years, but when he’s fit, he’s a quality player.”

In addition to Wilson, Celtic have also been linked with moves for David Datro Fofana (Chelsea), Kieron Bowie (Hibernian) and Franko Kovacevic (NK Celje) amid their pursuit of a new centre forward. However, it has been confirmed that Birmingham City striker Kyogo Furuhashi will not return to the club before the end of Deadline Day.
