Celtic have reportedly identified Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson as a key target ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.

The Scotland international is into the final year of his current contract at Anfield and Celtic are keen to finalise a deal to bring him north of the border next summer.

It’s reported that Robertson would be open to completing a move to Celtic in 2026, having grown up as a Bhoys supporter, although he would still prefer to extend his stay at Liverpool.

Contract extension talks are yet to take place, as per multiple reports, although Milos Kerkez’s woes at Anfield could help Robertson sign a new deal at Liverpool and therefore block a dream signing for Celtic.

Milos Kerkez to block Celtic transfer?

Kerkez was named in the 2024-25 PFA Team of the Season following a standout campaign at Bournemouth and he was courted by several top Premier League clubs this summer, including Manchester City.

But, Liverpool won the race for his signature after agreeing to pay a transfer fee of €46.9 million in July.

The Hungary international was signed to become Liverpool’s new first choice left-back and he started the Reds’ opening nine Premier League fixtures of this season.

However, he was notably hooked in the 38th minute versus Burnley in mid-September, after an underwhelming first-half display, while he was also substituted early against Chelsea and Brentford in October.

In a bid to fix Liverpool’s fortunes, Arne Slot has turned to Robertson.

The Scotland star has started ahead of Kerkez in four of the last five matches across the Premier League and Champions League, and the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday is the only loss Liverpool have suffered when Robertson has been selected at left-back so far this term.

Robertson was in the starting XI at left-back during wins over Atletico Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt, Real Madrid, Aston Villa and Southampton, while Liverpool’s fortunes have been far worse whenever Kerkez has been favoured.

As a result, the Reds may be unwilling to lose the Scotland defender on a Bosman deal next summer and it’s possible that Kerkez’s form could prompt them to agree a new contract with Robertson.
