Watson, 20, has scored three goals and provided one assist in eight Scottish Premiership games so far this season and his form has attracted the attention of Rangers, Hearts and several clubs in the Championship, as per TEAMtalk.

The Kilmarnock midfielder has already racked up over 100 first-team appearances and he is able to negotiate a pre-agreement deal during the January window ahead of a free transfer move next summer.

Rangers are eager to win the race for Watson’s signature and it has been reported that he is open to securing a move to Ibrox following the appointment of Danny Rohl as their new head coach.

The Gers signed 14 new players during the 2025 summer transfer window, however they have endured a torrid start to the new season and they have identified Watson as an ideal midfield reinforcement.

However, they are likely to face significant competition from Hearts, who are also keen to secure the 20-year-old’s services when his Kilmarnock contract expires.

Danny Rohl appointed as Rangers boss

The aforementioned Rohl, 36, has arrived at Ibrox following a stellar two-year stint as Sheffield Wednesday’s head coach. The German guided the Owls to Championship safety in his first campaign at the club, after arriving in October 2023, before securing a 12th-place finish last season.

However, he left Hillsborough by mutual consent in July amid a plethora of off-field issues at the club.

Following his appointment as Rangers’ permanent replacement for Russell Martin, Rohl told the club’s official website: “It is a huge privilege to be taking on the role of Head Coach at such an incredible club, recognised around the world.

“I know it has been a difficult start to the season, but there is still so much to play for in four competitions, and my staff and I will give it everything to reward the supporters and the club.

“We have no time to waste, we start straight away. I respect that trust is earned and understand we have to give the supporters confidence in what we are doing by showing it on the pitch from the start.”

Rohl added: “The expectations are huge and I love this challenge because I set high standards for myself and the team too.

“I’m looking forward to meeting the squad and getting down to work ahead of Thursday’s game away to Brann.”
