Liverpool in January? Fabrizio Romano reveals Guehi future
Fabrizio Romano says that Liverpool are among the clubs who are interested in signing Marc Guehi next summer but a January transfer is not currently planned.
The centre back will certainly leave Palace in 2026, with Oliver Glasner confirming last week that he will renew his contract that expires at the end of the season.
"I think Marc has already told us that he doesn't sign a new contract, so he will leave next year," Glasner said on Friday.
"The club wanted [him to stay]. They offered Marc a new contract. But he said, 'no, I want to make something different'. And that's normal.
"And for us, it's how we can deal with this situation? [What] is the best way to get this next step done? And that's all about how we are talking together."
Where will Guehi move?
Romano says that nothing is decided yet on Guehi's next destination despite reports elsewhere of a pre contract already having been agreed in principle with Liverpool.
The Italian journalist says that a "a free transfer is the most likely outcome for Guehi."
"Liverpool remain attentive and keen on the England international, with him still being on the shortlist for 2026, but nothing has been pre-agreed after the Deadline Day saga and nothing is signed or guaranteed at this stage.
"But the battle will involve several clubs. Will there be more from the Premier League? It is possible, for sure. But top Spanish clubs, Bayern Munich and Italian sides have also called to be informed about the situation."
Guehi was in talks with Liverpool throughout the summer transfer window and he was expected to complete an Anfield switch before the 19:00 BST deadline on Deadline Day.
A deal had been fully agreed between all parties, while Guehi had successfully undergone his medical at Liverpool ahead of a €40 million transfer.
However, Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the deal at the final hurdle amidst reports manager Oliver Glasner threatened to resign if Guehi was sold.
Guehi’s deal to Liverpool was so advanced that he even recorded a ‘farewell video’ for Crystal Palace fans.
The player has established himself as one of the best centre backs in the Premier League and was part of a Palace team who won the FA Cup in May.
Guehi grew up in Chelsea’s youth system from the age of seven and graduated all the way to the first team.
However, he only played two games in the EFL Cup before he was loaned to Swansea in 2020 and eventually sold to Crystal Palace in 2021.
At Palace he has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, making over 150 appearances.
He has been capped 26 times by England and he impressed during Euro 2024 on the way to the final.
