Rangers boss Russell Martin has revealed that Hamza Igamane refused to come on as a substitute during his side’s 1-1 draw against St Mirren on Sunday.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Lille throughout the summer transfer window and Rangers opted to reject a formal offer for the Morocco forward last week as they look to retain his services.

Amid speculation over his future, Igamane was named on the substitutes bench versus St Mirren and despite training all week, he claimed to be injured when asked to come on by Martin.

After the match, Martin told Sky Sports: “Hamza told me he was injured.

“We had a bid this week for Hamza, we rejected it. All was fine, he trained fine yesterday and warmed up fine. I turned around to him at 60 minutes because I wanted two strikers on the pitch and Hamza told me he's injured.”

When asked if Igamane had refused to play after his failed move away, Martin replied: “I don't know. I have to trust him, but we'll see.”

He added: “The issue is that the window is still open and there are people with one eye out and one eye in.

“We need people to be all in all the time at this football club, we really need that.

“There are too many people uncertain, still trying to think maybe there's something there for them.

“The window needs to shut quickly and in-house we have to make sure we have people that really, really want to be here. I'm calm about it.”

Hamza Igamane transfer update

Rangers have started the new Scottish Premiership season with three consecutive 1-1 draws and pressure is mounting on Martin to change their fortunes quickly.

Igamane scored 16 goals in 46 appearances during his debut campaign at Ibrox last season and he is being monitored by multiple clubs across Europe, including Feyenoord and the aforementioned Lille.

However, he still has four years remaining on his current contract at Rangers and the Scottish giants are reluctant to sell unless they receive an offer in excess of €17 million, as per multiple reports.
