Rangers get €25m transfer boost ahead of Club Brugge showdown
Rangers are set to benefit from a potential €25 million transfer prior to the Champions League clash with Club Brugge on Tuesday.
Russell Martin rotated his team significantly for Saturday’s League Cup victory over Alloa on Saturday, but the unconvincing nature of the display shows that there is still much work to be done if the Belgian outfit are to be overcome at Ibrox.
The Rangers boss has made 10 signings this summer, but it’s clear that the performance levels that he expects are not yet present.
On the eve of the Gers’ huge clash with Club Brugge, though, Martin has been given a boost by transfer news coming out of Belgium.
Club Brugge star wanted by Crystal Palace
Brugge star Christos Tzolis has attracted an approach from Crystal Palace as they seek a replacement for Eberechi Eze, who appears increasingly destined to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Tzolis has established himself as the Belgians’ star player. Last season, he scored 21 goals and generated 15 further assists in all competitions, while in seven matches this term, he has already chipped in with three goals and two decisive passes.
It would be a huge blow to Brugge to lose the 23-year-old on the verge of this critical trip to Glasgow, and even if a move does not materialise before the Ibrox clash kicks off, there is little doubt that the interest from Crystal Palace will turn the player’s head.
Tzolis has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €25.8 million, which puts him head and shoulders above most of his team-mates. Indeed, only centre-back Joel Ordonez exceeds this figure, highlighting how important the Greece international is to Club Brugge’s cause.
With Rangers struggling to get going this season, Martin will take any kind of boost he can ahead of the big Champions League showdown at Ibrox.
