Real Madrid consider Vinicius Jr sale with deadline set for new contract

Vinicius Junior could leave Real Madrid this summer after the La Liga giants put a deadline on resolving his contract issue or risk considering his sale.

The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with Madrid and no formal agreement has been announced despite previous suggestions that Vinicius was close to signing a new deal.

With there being a genuine chance that Vini Jr leaves on a free transfer next summer, Madrid have set an 'expiration date' are determined to conclude talks in the near future or they will ‘consider other options’.

That is according to AS, who claim that further developments are expected after Vini’s participation at the 2026 World Cup, although the discussions inside Real Madrid are framed around him signing a new contract rather than considering the Brazilian’s sale.

The current feeling around Vinicius’ contract is that responses have been ‘more wishful thinking than concrete action’ but Real Madrid are still ‘optimistic’ they can come to an agreement soon.

Both parties had been some way apart in terms of finances but, with president Florentino Perez desperate to keep his talismanic star at the club for the long-term, Real Madrid are hoping they will not need to explore Vinicius’ sale this summer, even if it may be considered.

Vinicius Junior has previously spoken out over his future and, in May, insisted he wants to stay in Madrid for his ‘whole life’ – a stance that is mirrored by the club.

However, money has previously been the sticking point for both sides, with Vinicius wanting to receive potentially a higher salary than the club’s top earner Kylian Mbappe.

Discussions over Vinicius’ image rights have also proven complicated, with both sides aware of how lucrative the player’s advertising value is.

Real Madrid have previously considered Vinicius’ departure and had even suggested they wouldn’t object to the forward seeing out his contract and leaving on a free, although this would represent a significant financial loss for them.

Teams from Saudi Arabia have held a long-standing interest in Vinicius, while the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea had been offered the player’s services by intermediaries earlier in the year when contract talks seemed at their most bleak.

The expectation is that Vinicius renews his contract in Madrid but, should talks take a turn for the worst, there is a world where the club’s crown jewel is sold before the end of the summer in order to ensure Los Blancos do not miss out on a windfall from their star man.
