Real Madrid make final Vinicius Jr transfer decision
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is reportedly eager to reward Vinicius Junior with a contract extension following his brace against Atletico Madrid on Sunday evening.
The Brazil international has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Bernabeu, and he has been heavily linked with a 2026 exit amid rumoured interest from multiple clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
Contract talks with Vinicius’ representatives have failed to advance significantly over the past 12 months, with the 25-year-old keen to be offered the highest annual salary in the Real Madrid squad - a request that Perez has been reluctant to sanction.
As a result, the former Flamengo winger has been tipped to depart Los Blancos this summer unless a resolution can be agreed.
However, rumours of an exit have died down following the departure of Xabi Alonso, with whom Vinicius endured a tricky relationship, and the Brazilian has now rediscovered his best form under interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa.
He has scored 10 goals in his last 11 appearances across all competitions, including a brace during Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Atleti on Sunday, and Perez has now accepted that it’s time to finalise a new deal with the forward.
That is according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, who claim that Perez wants to agree a contract extension with Vinicius as soon as possible in order to end media speculation suggesting he could depart the Bernabeu following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
Vinicius Jr set to sign new Real Madrid contract
Vinicius, who is still only 25 years old, is regarded as a key part of Real Madrid’s future by the club’s hierarchy and he appears to be extremely settled at the Bernabeu following Alonso’s exit.
Speaking to reporters back in January, the Brazil international admitted: “I want to stay here for a long time.
“There's also a lot of talk about my contract renewal because I have another year left. We're very relaxed about it. I trust [Real Madrid president Florentino Perez], and he trusts me. We have a very good relationship, and we'll sort things out at the right time. We're in no hurry to do that.”
Vinicius has 29 goal contributions in 43 games so far this season and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €99.9 million.
