The 27-year-old has endured a tough start to life at the Bernabeu, following his arrival from Liverpool for €10 million last summer, with injuries and a lack of form contributing to an underwhelming first seven months with Los Blancos.

Alexander-Arnold opted to reject a contract extension offer from boyhood club Liverpool in favour of completing a move to Real Madrid in 2025, but he has only amassed 16 appearances for the Spanish giants since his move in June.

The England star, who looks set to miss out on the upcoming World Cup after falling out of favour under Thomas Tuchel, has missed 16 matches through injury so far this season and his current thigh issue is expected to keep him on the sidelines until February.

The ex-Liverpool star has started just seven games across all competitions this term and rumours have linked him with a surprise early return to the Premier League in recent weeks.

However, Spanish publication El Nacional state that Alexander-Arnold is now set to remain at Real Madrid this summer.

Trent Alexander-Arnold makes Real Madrid transfer decision

It’s reported that Alexander-Arnold could have opted to leave Real Madrid this year if Alonso had remained as the club’s head coach, with the Spaniard unconvinced by Los Blancos’ marquee summer signing.

El Nacional claim that Alonso wasn’t impressed by Alexander-Arnold’s conduct off the pitch or his effort in training, which was a key reason why he selected Dani Carvajal as his preferred right-back.

However, Alonso has now left Real Madrid by mutual consent following their defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final and Alvaro Arbeloa has been appointed as his replacement.

As a result, Alexander-Arnold has been handed a clean slate and he is now reportedly eager to remain at Real Madrid for the foreseeable future.
