Real Madrid have submitted a €100 million offer for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero, as per a sensational report in Spain.

The Argentina international has been linked with a Spurs exit on a number of occasions over the past few years and Alvaro Arbeloa’s side are keen to finalise a blockbuster late winter deal in an attempt to fix their defensive woes.

That is according to Fichajes, who speculate that Los Blancos have lodged a €100m bid for Romero as they speculatively look to bring him to the Bernabeu before the end of Transfer Deadline Day on 2 February.

Injury issues suffered by Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba have severely limited their involvement this campaign, meaning academy graduate Raul Asencio and summer signing Dean Huijsen have been required to play the bulk of recent minutes at centre-back.

Los Blancos have conceded three or more goals in three of their last six matches across all competitions and president Florentino Perez is reportedly desperate to rectify the situation by adding Romero to the club’s defensive ranks.

A deal before the end of the winter window is unlikely to be agreed, but Real Madrid have ramped up their pursuit of his signature by offering a €100m proposal in a bid to tempt Tottenham into a sale.

Cristian Romero to Real Madrid?

Despite Real Madrid’s interest in Romero, Spurs are reluctant to sanction a sale as they view the 27-year-old as an integral member of Thomas Frank’s squad.

Furthermore, Romero’s current deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium isn’t due to expire until 2029, following his decision to sign fresh terms last August.

His centre-back partner Micky van de Ven has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent months, although Liverpool are widely considered to be the frontrunners for his signature amid their pursuit of a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
