Barcelona 'concerned' with Yamal behaviour as Flick RAGES over board decision
Barcelona are reportedly having concerns over Lamine Yamal’s behaviour, which resulted in Hansi Flick being blocked from dropping the wonderkid for the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.
Yamal has emerged as the jewel in Barcelona’s crown since breaking into the first team in 2023 and the 18-year-old has become a global superstar at his tender age.
However, Barca are aware of the complications that can come with the hype and attention and the La Liga side are said to be keeping a close eye on Yamal to ensure he maintains his professionalism.
While there are no alarm bells ringing currently, Catalan outlet El Nacional have revealed that Yamal was late for a meeting prior to Barca’s 2-1 defeat to PSG earlier this month, which led to Flick attempting to remove the teenager from his line-up.
However, the decision is said to have caused a ‘stir’ with the club, who felt that leaving Yamal out would be a mistake for such an important match, prompting sporting director Deco to push for the ban to be reversed upon pressure from president Joan Laporta.
Flick is described as being unhappy and felt his authority was being undermined, having chosen to instil strong discipline in his squad, but the Barca boss ultimately relented despite feeling as though the situation set a dangerous precedent.
Flick frustrated after Barcelona board intervention
Yamal has been virtually an ever-present in Barcelona’s side since his debut, although the forward has struggled with injuries in recent weeks and missed Spain’s matches during the international break.
Barca have been engaged in a war with Spain after Yamal suffered the injury during the last international break and tensions have only further increased with the dispute between Flick and the club’s board.
Flick is reported to have cautioned Yamal internally, although the player’s camp have denied that he was late and described the situation as media hype.
However, Flick’s concern is more with Barcelona’s board for intervening with his management rather than with Yamal for his behaviour, having previously punished the likes of Raphinha and Jules Kounde for the same reason, and the German coach has reportedly asked the club to fully respect his authority going forward.
