Real Madrid are closing in on an agreement with Brahim Diaz over a new contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Los Blancos are in the midst of a transformative summer, having appointed Xabi Alonso as the successor to Carlo Ancelotti. The former midfield maestro is set to shake things up on the pitch, and he expects even Real Madrid's biggest names to pull their weight.

Off the pitch, too, the LaLiga runners-up are making a huge splash. Real Madrid devastated several Premier League heavyweights by snapping up Dean Huijsen in a €60 million deal.

They also managed to convince Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave his boyhood club, while talks are ongoing with Benfica to re-sign former academy prospect Alvaro Carreras.

However, this will not be the end of Real Madrid's business this summer as they are also set to hand several of their current players new contracts to tie them to the club for the foreseeable future.

Brahim close to new deal

It remains to be seen how exactly Xabi Alonso will line up his Galacticos, but one man who could benefit from the Spaniard's arrival is Brahim Diaz.

Carlo Ancelotti rarely used the Morocco international, but the busy attacker - who has a bit of Florian Wirtz about him - could be given more chances under Alonso, who likes players who are comfortable finding pockets of space all over the pitch.

Indeed, Diaz appears to be hugely excited by the chance to work under Alonso as Fabrizio Romano reveals that the 25-year-old has approved a contract extension despite his limited minutes in recent seasons.

The transfer insider reports that 'advanced talks' are currently taking place to formally seal an agreement with the diminutive playmaker. Once a deal for Brahim is sealed, Real Madrid will focus on tying goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois down to fresh terms.
