Kylian Mbappe is just happy to be back playing football regardless of whether he is wearing Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid colours.

The French megastar was the protagonist of the craziest transfer story of the summer. The 24-year-old left PSG outraged when it was revealed that he had no plans to trigger his contract extension, which left the French giants facing a free transfer exit of their superstar next year.

Unwilling to accept that, Mbappe was transfer-listed and banished from the first-team squad. He could have sealed a world-record move to Al-Hilal, but he instead doubled down on his desire to remain with the Parisians for the duration of his contract, allowing him to get his dream move to Real Madrid next year.

However, with PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi threatening to keep Mbappe on the sidelines for the entire duration of the season should he refuse to depart or sign a new deal, talks were initiated after PSG's opening game. They were positive and culminated in a surprising U-turn as Mbappe was reinstated.

Now what?

Despite some rumours about a late Real Madrid swoop, Mbappe remained with PSG as Deadline Day came and went. There is one small problem, however. He is still yet to sign a new deal, meaning that he is still free to depart next summer as things stand.

Talks regarding an extension have reportedly progressed but unless the ink is actually dry, the threat of Real Madrid continues to loom. Mbappe, it seems, isn't worrying about that too much.

His latest social post - a smiling emoji, a football and a heart accompanied by a picture of him in PSG training - indicates that he is just happy to be back actually playing football rather than sitting on the sidelines.

Having already scored three goals in just two games, Mbappe will look to better his tally in what is bound to be a fiery encounter with Lyon following PSG's acquisition of their wonderkid Bradley Barcola.
