Real Madrid had a relatively quiet transfer window, but still managed to strengthen the first-team squad, despite losing talismanic figure Casemiro.

The Brazilian has joined Manchester United for a fee that could reach over €70 million if add-ons are met, but Los Blancos had already signed his replacement before he left.

While Barcelona have spent money that they don't have, Madrid have been more prudent with their work, splashing out a total of €100 million on summer signings.

This fee is entirely channelled towards Monaco and France midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and €20m of that is dependent on bonuses. The former Monaco man is expected to now feature heavily in the starting Xi following Casemiro's departure.

As well as Tchouameni, Real Madrid have only recruited Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger, who arrived on a free transfer.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have no need to strengthen ridiculously and are instead tweaking their side as well as planning for the future, when veterans such as Toni Kroos or Luka Modric may play a lesser role.

Los Blancos, after all, won the Champions League last season and strolled to La Liga success without too much bother. However, the departure of Casemiro may impact the team as Tchouameni will be required to step up immediately without a bedding-in period, like his countryman Eduardo Camavinga had at Santiago Bernabeu.

Who are Real Madrid's new signings?

Chelsea and Germany defender Antonio Rudiger has joined the club for nothing after his contract at Stamford Bridge expired on June 30. He is expected to provide competition for David Alaba and Eder Militao at centre-back, while the Austrian international Alaba may move to left-back, the position in which he made his name at Bayern Munich.

Due to the sanctions placed on former owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea weren’t able to negotiate a new deal with Rudiger in the final few months of the season, which allowed Real Madrid to swoop and pick him up for free.

The second addition of the summer came in the form of Monaco midfielder Tchouameni. The France international has joined for €100m after Los Blancos fought off serious competition from both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as interest from Chelsea, to win the race for his signature.

Tchouameni has been purchased for an initial €80m, however that fee will rise by a further €20m if various add-on clauses are met.

The midfielder came through the ranks at Bordeaux before earning a move to Monaco in January 2020. After two-and-a-half years in the Principality, Tchouameni finally left the club amid serious interest from Europe’s elite.

He has joined the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde in the Real Madrid midfield as Ancelotti stocks up in the middle of the park.

Real Madrid have lost both Luka Jovic and Gareth Bale on free transfers, to Fiorentina and Los Angeles FC respectively. Young defender Victor Chust has also left to join Cadiz on a permanent deal, while, as mentioned, Casemiro has joined Man Utd.
