Lamine has developed into one of the world’s leading players over the course of the last 12 months, experiencing a fantastic season with the Blaugrana that culminated in LaLiga title glory.

He scored 18 and created 22 more across all competitions for the Camp Nou side, which has seen him become the second-most valuable player in the world.

With a contract that expires in 2026, Barcelona are seeking to tie the Ballon d’Or contender down to a new long-term deal, which led to claims that he asked to become the highest-paid player at the club.

“Lamine Yamal's renewal is on the right track. He's a player with a level of maturity that's not normal,” Deco told RAC1.

“For me, it's not about whether he's 17, 26, or whatever. Football has to be fair, and he should have a contract that reflects that. He didn't ask to be the highest-paid player on the team. That's not true.”

Reports claim that Lamine will be made the third-highest paid player at Barcelona, with a salary around €9 million per year in a restructured wage model at Camp Nou. Only Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong will earn more than him.

PSG's Lamine Yamal interest

Deco also confirmed that PSG have enquired about signing Lamine Yamal.

“Yes, last year they asked about him,” the Barcelona official said.

Previously, there were claims from president Joan Laporta that PSG were ready to pay €250m to sign Lamine from Barca. This was rubbished by the Champions League finalists.

Although the stature of the Barcelona attacker has grown since then, another transfer attempt from the Parisian side appears unlikely given the balance that Luis Enrique has found in his squad.
