Barcelona are still chasing Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford, and now Ruben Amorim’s side have declared their asking price for the England forward.

Rashford has announced that he will leave Aston Villa after a promising loan stint at the Premier League side, yet with his relationship with Amorim fractured, there appears to be no prospect that he will remain at Old Trafford beyond the summer.

Barcelona are seeking to add another attacking player to their ranks, with the 27-year-old they have studied the possibility of signing.

According to Sport, they have now been informed by Man Utd that Rashford will cost them €48 million.

This could be a deal-breaking figure from the point of view of the Catalans. The source points out that while the transfer fee is “affordable”, the player’s salary means Rashford will struggle to fit into their wage structure.

Barcelona, though, are prepared to play the waiting game. The Blaugrana are aware that United have a “very serious problem with the player” and are likely to be open to either lowering their asking price or even loaning him out on “advantageous terms”.

Joan Garcia to sign by Monday?

If a deal for Rashford looks like it may take weeks to resolve, Sport also indicates that Barcelona are closing in on Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia.

The 24-year-old has been linked with Man Utd and Aston Villa, while he has also been tracked by Arsenal for more than a year, yet Barca are making the most serious move to secure his signing.

The Catalans have offered the goalkeeper, who has been branded the best in La Liga, a five-year deal, which includes a bonus if he is called up by Spain. He is expected to meet with his agents over the weekend to decide his transfer plan.

"There's always news coming out in football and there are things out there [about me]," he told TV3 when he was asked about the rumours linking him to Barcelona.

"It is not always the case that what comes out corresponds with reality. I am just staying calm, and any decision which needs to be made, I will think about with those close to me, picking the best option for me."

Garcia has a release clause of €25m, which would have risen to €30m had he been included in the most recent Spain national team – something he was somewhat surprisingly overlooked for.
