Kylian Mbappe's future at PSG looks as uncertain as ever after the forward was criticised for his performance in a 1-1 draw against Lille on Sunday.

Mbappe scored PSG’s goal from the penalty spot midway through the second half but failed to celebrate his effort.

The France star’s attitude was questioned throughout the match as he was largely shutout by Lille centre-backs Alexandro and Leny Yoro, both of whom had outstanding games.

But the timing of this was particularly notable given that Mbappe will be able to start talking terms with foreign teams as of 1 January given that he is out of contract with PSG on 30 June and is destined to become a free agent.

Real Madrid have put a 15 January deadline for Mbappe to accept their approach, so there is a sense that the next month promises to be pivotal in the player’s career.

‘Mbappe plays where he wants’ – Luis Enrique

Following Sunday’s match in Lille, PSG head coach Luis Enrique told Amazon Prime that Mbappe is the boss when it comes to selecting his position.

“Why make Mbappe play through the centre rather than on the left? No, no, Kylian plays where he decides,” the former Barcelona boss revealed.

“He has total freedom to play, whether its inside or on the wing. It’s up to us to fit around him.”

On the question of Mbappe’s lack of celebration, Enrique replied: “Is he frustrated? Ask him. You have more power over this than me.”

The 24-year-old has not broken his silence on his plans, but his overall demeanour during the Lille fixture suggests that something is unsettling him at PSG. This, naturally, pushes him towards Real Madrid.

And Mbappe has made a habit of making his discontent clear with his body language, which was not missed in the media.

FootMercato said his “behaviour was more questionable than ever” while L’Equipe noted that he “struggled to make any difference”.

Le Parisien, meanwhile, stated that Mbappe “offered a lacklustre performance that appeared to be the consequence of an unconvincing move into the middle”.

Things are clearly not settled with him at PSG, and that can only play into the hands of Real Madrid.
