Florentino Pérez may soon have to authorise one of the most difficult-to-accept sales of his Real Madrid presidency. According to El Nacional, Los Blancos may finally listen to offers for Marco Asensio as the Spaniard hasn’t been able to regain top form following his serious knee injury from the pre-season of 2019.

Asensio is no longer a starter at Real Madrid and, even when he has played under Carlo Ancelotti this season, the Italian has preferred to use the 25-year-old in the centre of the pitch to give rest to his midfield starters.

It might finally be time for Pérez to sell the player whose signature he was so proud to have beaten Barcelona to. If Asensio does move on in the winter or summer windows of 2022, there are several clubs who’d be interested and who’d believe they can rediscover his best form. Here comes a look at five of them.

Asensio to Arsenal?

A few years ago, the English side most strongly linked with Asensio was Liverpool. But, now Arsenal are the leading Premier League candidates as they were interested last summer too, with talk of a €40m deal. With the Gunners having loosened the purse strings, they could make a move for the Spaniard if and when he is put on the market by Real Madrid.

Asensio to Tottenham?

Across North London, Tottenham are another club who could be a landing spot for Asensio. They have been linked in the past and might revisit the Asensio option, with the fanbase desperate for some kind of excitement. Spurs have worked closely with Real Madrid on several transfers in the past few years and Asensio might be tempted after seeing how Sergio Reguilón and Gareth Bale swapped the fringes of the Real Madrid squad for regular playing time in a different white shirt.

Asensio to AC Milan?

If Tottenham are the club Real Madrid have done the most business with in England in recent years, then AC Milan are the equivalent in Italy. Brahim Díaz and Theo Hernández have moved to the San Siro in search of playing time and thrived, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Asensio was able to do likewise.

Asensio to Juventus?

Massimiliano Allegri has always been a big fan of Asensio and, now that he is back at Juventus, this makes Turin another potential destination for the Spaniard. It’s not just the coach who likes Asensio, as there are several directors who can see the sporting and marketing potential of a move for the Spaniard too. Juventus have even been mentioned as one of he clubs who would be willing to try for Asensio in the winter window, so this is one to keep a close eye on.

Asensio to Manchester United?

Asensio might not be an obvious fit at Manchester United, but the fact that Zinedine Zidane has been linked with that job makes Old Trafford a potential destination. It was Zidane who gave Asensio his Real Madrid debut as a 20-year-old in the UEFA Super Cup, with the winger going on to score a wonderful goal that night, and Zidane has trusted his long-range shooting ability ever since. Zidane taking over at Manchester United might be unlikely. But, if it were to happen, it would make Asensio a likely transfer target for the Frenchman.
