After missing out on the title to Bayer Leverkusen last year, Bayern Munich reclaimed the Bundesliga crown this time around after a fabulous season under Vincent Kompany.

Several stars performed exceptionally in Bavaria, while a number of other players from across the German top flight were also standout performers during the campaign.

Below, FootballTransfers runs through our Bundesliga Team of the Season.

GK: Nikola Vasilj (St Pauli)

St Pauli scored the fewest goals and yet they amazingly stayed in the Bundesliga - almost solely down to the fact they conceded the second-fewest goals in the entire division.

Having a goalkeeper who is impossible to beat is one way to ensure you don't lose too many games and Nikola Vasilj performed that role exceptionally well this season.

RB: Anthony Caci (Mainz)

Seven assists from right-wing-back is an excellent return for anyone, particularly from someone playing for Mainz.

Anthony Caci played a key role in their push towards European football and he was excellent both with and without the ball throughout the campaign.

CB: Dayot Upamecano (Bayern Munich)

Bayern Munich were the best team defensively in the Bundesliga this season despite using four different goalkeepers over the 34 games.

It helps when you have the stability of Dayot Upamecano to give confidence to the rest of the backline, with the Frenchman developing into a reliable figure in defence.

CB: Nico Schlotterbeck (Borussia Dortmund)

Since Niko Kovac was appointed, Borussia Dortmund have been the Bundesliga's second best team. Defensive leader Nico Schlotterbeck is a key reason for that, with Kovac improving BVB's weakest area - their backline.

Schlotterbeck has been a pivotal player for Dortmund this term and he has established himself as one of Europe’s best central defenders.

LB: Nathaniel Brown (Eintracht Frankfurt)

One of the most prominent tacklers in the Bundesliga this season, Nathaniel Brown was excellent defensively for Champions League-bound Eintracht Frankfurt.

He also contributed nine goals and assists from a wing-back berth and he was the standout defender on the left flank in the entire Bundesliga.

CM: Nadiem Amiri (Mainz)

Two free-kick goals and five other strikes from Nadiem Amiri has helped Mainz into contention for a place in Europe next season, with the German also chipping in with crucial blocks and recoveries at key times for the Zero-Fivers.

Amiri has enjoyed a fantastic first full season at Mainz and his €1 million price tag now looks like a bargain.

CM: Angelo Stiller (Stuttgart)

Angelo Stiller’s form this season has enhanced his reputation as a top-class central midfielder, with the Germany international registering eight Bundesliga assists from the middle of the park.

The all-round midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to a bigger club in recent weeks and success in the cup final to qualify for Europe is probably the only way Stuttgart can keep him around, especially considering they finished in mid-table this season.

CM: Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen)

Florian Wirtz returned from injury and looked even better than ever as Bayer Leverkusen comfortably finished second. If they hadn't performed so well last season, maybe the team, the coach and their star player would be getting more praise this time around.

Wirtz is set to leave Leverkusen this summer, with the Germany international attracting several high-profile suitors after notching 10 goals and 12 assists in the Bundesliga.

RW: Michael Olise (Bayern Munich)

Michael Olise has been the best player in the Bundesliga this campaign and he will probably go down as the signing of the season for any league after registering 25 goals and assists during his first year in the German top flight.

Olise immediately looked at home for Bayern, especially down the home stretch where he scored and assisted in back-to-back-to-back games to help win Harry Kane a title.

ST: Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)

Speaking of Kane, he is included in the centre forward spot after claiming the Bundesliga's top scorer award for the second consecutive year with 25 strikes.

He may have lost his crown if Omar Marmoush stuck around all season, but even still, Kane guarantees goals, and now he has finally won the team trophy he always wanted.

LW: Vincenzo Grifo (Freiburg)

How Vincenzo Grifo has never ended up at an elite club with a much bigger profile is bizarre, but Freiburg won't care one bit.

The veteran produced yet another stellar season from the left flank, registering eight goals and 11 assists in the Bundesliga.
