First Kane, then Tel – Romano reveals Man Utd face THIRD Bayern transfer blow

Manchester United have found Bayern Munich tough rivals in the transfer market in recent years and could potentially suffer at the hands of the Bavarians once again this summer.

Harry Kane was on Man Utd’s transfer shortlist last summer but ultimately left Tottenham to move to Bayern. His scoring form has continued at a pace in Munich that suggests he would have excelled, as expected, at Old Trafford.

FCB then dealt a blow to Erik ten Hag’s side this week as it was announced that teenage striker Mathys Tel has agreed a new contract with the club. Man Utd and Arsenal had been linked with the Frenchman but this news takes any potential transfer off the table in the foreseeable future.

Having dealt the Old Trafford side a blow in the past and in the present, Fabrizio Romano has also revealed that FCB could complete the treble in the not-so-distant future.

Man Utd are one of the clubs following the progress of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee. They even had him watched by scouts at the weekend.

Bayern, however, have a buy-back option for the 22-year-old striker, who has been called up to the Netherlands squad for the first time forth the forthcoming international break.

Romano has explained that Tel’s new contract does not mean that the Bundesliga side’s interest has been dropped.

“It is entirely separate from the situation with Joshua Zirkzee and Bayern’s buy-back clause for the talented Dutch striker, who is currently looking very impressive with Bologna in Serie A,” Romano says.

“Bayern have the option to re-sign Zirkzee, but for now my understanding is that they will decide on Zirkzee as soon as they have new manager. Discussions will take place later this year, but of course first they need to sort out their replacement for Thomas Tuchel when he leaves the job at the end of the season.”

Why Bayern are still a threat

Tel is unlikely to have agreed on a new Bayern contract without assurances that his first-team minutes will at least stay stable and, ideally, increase.

This points to Zirkzee not returning to the Allianz Arena, at least in a playing capacity.

What Man Utd must fear, however, is that Bayern re-sign Zirkzee and loan him out in a bid to increase his value further or to keep him in their stable as insurance in case anything happens to Kane or Tel.
