Jesse Lingard's career takes another bizarre twist after Celtic snub
Former Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard is closing in on a shock move to Clube do Remo, according to Brazilian media.
The 33-year-old is currently without a club after his contract with FC Seoul expired over the winter. He made 67 competitive appearances in South Korea, scoring 19 goals and providing 10 assists.
Though solid figures, Lingard hasn't played an official match since early December. To stay fit, he's completing an intensive individual program. He's reportedly in good physical condition, but match sharpness is a different topic.
As a result, clubs have been reluctant to take a chance on the former Man Utd and Nottingham Forest attacker, forcing him to actively offer his services to potential suitors.
According to TEAMtalk, Lingard offered himself to Celtic, Rangers and various clubs in England, but they all turned down the chance to sign the veteran midfielder.
Lingard heading to Brazil
The former England international's name has also been prominently mentioned in Dutch media in recent weeks. Under Robin van Persie's management, Feyenoord were linked with the creative midfielder, who played alongside the former striker at Man Utd.
A reunion seemed realistic for a while. But after the arrival of Raheem Sterling, the topic was essentially put to bed. Feyenoord had secured their attacking reinforcement and saw no reason to pursue Lingard. Dutch outlet 1908.nl also reported that Sterling would likely be the Rotterdam side's last signing of the season.
Now, Globo has produced a shock report claiming that Brazilian minnows Remo are making progress on a deal for Lingard. Talks have been ongoing for weeks, and a contract for the remainder of the season is on the table.
The Belem-based club have returned to Serie A after a 32-year absence and are looking to make a splash with the signing of Lingard. Many ageing European stars have moved to Brazil in recent years, including the 33-year-old's former Man Utd teammate Memphis Depay, who currently plays for Corinthians.
The report claims that there is a "good chance" that Lingard will be playing in Brazil's top flight this year.
