The Red Devils may look to make an offer for Neves, though there are other areas of hte pitch that needs bolstering as well.

Man Utd have sent scouts to watch him in action for Benfica during this season, and it’s thought that they are convinced about his ability.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Benfica are not willing to sell him for an amount less than the release clause, and are in no rush to let one of their most valuable players leave so soon, especially in the winter window.

What has Bruno Fernandes said about Joao Neves?

It comes after Bruno Fernandes spoke highly of his Portugal team-mate while on international duty for Portugal last week.

He told Sport TV: "I would love to have him at United. But it’s Joao choice… He has top quality. He’s a great player but it depends on the coach's ideas. He will have a great future, in United or somewhere else."

Neves began training with the Benfica first team in January following the departure of Enzo Fernandez for what was then a record fee. Since then he has drawn interested clubs for his brilliant displays during the campaign.

Nevees made his international debut for Portugal in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
